Power of Attorney Attestation for Overseas Pakistanis
A power of attorney is the difference between handling something from abroad and having to fly home for it.
Power of Attorney FAQs
The document is drafted for the specific act, then signed and attested at the Pakistani embassy or consulate in the country where you live — in person, with your passport and usually your CNIC or NICOP. It is then sent to Pakistan and attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after which your attorney can use it. We prepare the draft and handle the Pakistan end.
A special power covers one defined act — selling a particular property, operating a particular account. A general power grants broad authority over your affairs. For most purposes a special power is the right choice and the safer one, because it limits what can be done in your name. A general power is occasionally necessary, and should not be given lightly or to someone you do not entirely trust.
For property transactions, usually yes, and an unregistered document is a common reason for a transfer stalling at the sub-registrar. Requirements vary by province and by the nature of the transaction. We tell you whether registration applies to your matter, because it changes both the timeline and what the wording needs to contain.
Yes. A power of attorney can be revoked, and where the original was registered the revocation generally needs to be registered too, with notice given to the attorney and to anyone relying on it — a bank or a registry. Do not simply stop mentioning it: until it is properly revoked, it may still be acted upon.
Drafting is quick, often a day or two. The part outside our control is the appointment at the Pakistani mission where you live, which varies enormously by country and season. Once the executed document reaches Pakistan, MOFA attestation is typically a few working days. We give you a realistic estimate for your country rather than a best case.
